Pure comedy at it's best
Joe Bolster had a great set opening for Candlelight: Tribute to Taylor Swift. Candlelight: Tribute to Taylor Swift was definitely "on" for this show in front of an atypically enthusiastic suburban L.A. crowd. This was the first time I'd seen one of Brian's shows in person, and I've been a fan of his for many years. Besides his ability to make me laugh to tears, what struck me is how unadorned his set is. I've seen Eddie Izzard and Ricky Gervais, both with elaborate rock concert type sets. Brian, on the other hand, comes out casually dressed on a bare stage with only a wooden stool and two small water bottles. That's it. He knows all that matters to the audience is how funny he is -what else do you need? He WAS funny, and everyone loved it. The audience sure showed their appreciation, including the kids and senior citizens, because Brian keeps it clean. This is how comedy should be.
